House Speaker John Boehner is preparing to put forward another debt-ceiling bill, either the same one that he failed to get sufficient support for last night or a slightly altered one. Yet it's still unclear whether Boehner has the votes to pass the measure, and if he doesn't, the impact on his leadership position, according to Republican staffers, would be huge. The Democrats, meanwhile, having vowed to oppose the bill, are in a holding pattern. As is the Treasury, which had planned to detail its debt ceiling contingency plan at the end of trading Friday, but now may hold off because of the uncertainty over what Congress will do.
