More than 100 people died when a Boeing 737 crashed upon takeoff in Havana’s Jose Marti International Airport in Friday, according to Cuban officials and reports. Three survivors were reportedly in critical condition, CNN reported. Flight DMJ 0972, which was carrying 105 passengers and nine crew members, was bound for the Cuban city of Holguin, when it crashed and turned into a “large fireball followed by a towering plume of smoke.” The cause of the crash is still unknown. Cubana de Aviacion, the airline behind the crash, reportedly had to “ground some of its aging fleet because of safety issues” in the past.
