Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan said he is aiming to retake territory seized by Boko Haram within a month, the BBC reported Thursday. “I’m very hopeful that it will not take us more than a month to recover the old territories” taken by the Islamic militant group, the president told the BBC. The government’s army has won a series of recent clashes with Boko Haram. The military recently announced that they won back two major urban centers, Yobe and Adamawa, and have vowed to soon reclaim Borno state, the birthplace of the militant group. The conflict with Boko Haram has left more than 15,500 people dead since 2012.
