Looking for a new way to give back during the holidays? The bookstore Borders, the publisher Perseus Books, and the digital charity site DonorsChoose.org are teaming up to help fund U.S. public schools. Citing the documentary about America’s ailing school system Waiting for ‘Superman’, Borders announced that it will give $15 gift certificates to customers between December 4 and 5 to spend on DonorsChoose.org, a site where public school teachers from around the country post projects that need funding. If customers buy the companion book to the documentary, Waiting for ‘Superman’: How We Can Save America’s Failing Public Schools, they will get two gift cards. “We’re thrilled that the Waiting for ‘Superman’ companion book has been a part of the national conversation on education, and we’re grateful to be able to work with Borders and DonorsChoose.org to let Borders customers support schools in this innovative way,” said David Steinberger, president of The Perseus Books Group.
