This weekend, Efron had some help from Sarah Jessica Parker, Halle Berry, Ashton Kutcher, and Michelle Pfeiffer as the film New Year’s Eve took the top spot with $13.7 million in the U.S. and Canada. Efron fans shouldn’t go too crazy about the success—tickets sales in North America had their worst weekend since September 2008. Some in the industry blame the sluggish performance on a lack of male-oriented films.
