BP Caps First Oil Leak

Good news and bad news: Overnight, BP capped the first of the three oil leaks in the Gulf of Mexico—but oil will continue to flow into the water at a rate of 5,000 barrels a day until the other leaks can be capped. "It doesn't lessen the flow, it just simplifies the number of leak points they have to address," Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class David Mosley said. Workers will try to cap the main leak on Thursday by lowering a 100-ton box onto the mile-deep gusher.
