It should come as no surprise that there is still plenty of oil left in the Gulf of Mexico, lodged in the sediment. But, eight months after the well first exploded, the remaining oil is posing a serious threat to marine life, according to a federal report released this week. And the worst part is there seems to be nothing anyone can do about it. "We've reached that point of diminishing returns," said one marine scientist. The report also stated that oil could still wash up on the beaches on the Gulf Coast, where workers will try to deal with it. But overall, BP saw the report as positive news. "The scientific evidence in this report is consistent with our observations that the beaches are safe, the water is safe, and the seafood is safe," said a company spokesman.
