The son of a Bradley University professor was charged with first-degree murder on Monday in connection with his parents’ disappearance late last week, the Journal Star reports. According to Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell, 21-year-old Jose Ramirez was arrested for first-degree murder and 20-year-old Matthew Roberts was arrested for “obstruction of justice and concealment of a homicidal death.” Ramirez is the son of Susan Brill De Ramirez, an English professor at Bradley, and Antonio Ramirez Barron, a technology support specialist at the university. The wife and husband were reportedly last seen Thursday at work. Sheriff Asbell said police believe they have been dead since Friday morning, after neither showed up at the university. He also said law enforcement’s efforts are now “focused on recovering the bodies.” Earlier Monday, Sheriff Asbell told reporters deputies responded to the wife and husband’s home around 10 p.m. on Sunday and “found blood evidence and signs of a burglary.”
