It looks as though Britain will not be hiring former police chief Bill Bratton. The government has narrowed down its list of potential police commissioners to four British nationals. There was much talk that the former chief of the New York, L.A., and Boston police departments would land the job, but many in David Cameron’s cabinet, including Home Secretary Theresa May, adamantly opposed having a foreigner as commissioner. Just last week, Bratton helped Cameron as an adviser during the London riots. The finalists are Acting Commissioner Tim Godwin, president of the Association of Chief Police Officers Sir Hugh Orde, Strathclyde Chief of Police Stephen House, and former Liverpool Police chief Bernard Hogan-Howe. A decision is expected in two weeks.
