RJ Mitte, the disability advocate and actor known for his breakout role as the son of Bryan Cranston’s Walter White on the Emmy Award-winning series Breaking Bad, has died at 34. His reps told Deadline he died in Brownsville, Texas, on Monday, but no immediate cause of death was given. TMZ reported that they were told Mitte died by suicide, but the actor’s reps have not confirmed that. “It is with profound sadness we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,” his reps said in a statement. Mitte’s experience living with cerebral palsy shaped both his role as Walter Jr. on Breaking Bad as well as his work as a disability rights advocate. Aside from being an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, he served as the president of The Mitte Foundation, a philanthropic organization started by his family to support community initiatives in central Texas. In a statement, the foundation described Mitte as a “beloved friend and dedicated champion of the arts whose commitment to Brownsville will forever be part of our community’s story.”
