The number of breast cancer cases in the U.S. is projected to rise by as much as 50 percent by 2030, according to projections from the National Cancer Institute, which say that as many as 441,000 will be diagnosed annually. By contrast, 283,000 cases were diagnosed in 2011. The change is attributed to an aging population, but predictions say that a smaller percentage of the cases will be non-estrogen-receptive—meaning that more of the cancers will be easier to treat.
