Anyone intending to break this record better not plan on getting sick—ever. After starting a NFL record 297 games as quarterback, Brett Favre will sit out Monday’s game in Detroit between the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Giants. Favre, 41, has been hobbled by injuries all season, but a December 5 shoulder strain took him out of the starting lineup. On September 20, 1992, Favre relieved an injured quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, and spent the next 16 years leading the team on the field before going on to QB the New York Jets and the Vikings. Hall of Famer Steve Young called Favre’s record “one of the greatest athletic streaks in the history of athletics. There’s no other way to look at it… that number is amazing.” Favre is a three-time MVP, a Super Bowl champion, and the holder of virtually every significant passing record in the NFL.
