Don’t expect to get much done across the U.K. on Wednesday. Two million public-sector workers are set to go on a 24-hour strike against changes to the pension system. The government aims to make union members pay more and work longer to get their pensions. In what has been billed as the largest walkout in a generation, more than 1,000 demonstrations will rock the U.K., striking schools, hospitals, airports, and government offices. Up to 90 percent of schools may be closed because of teachers on strike, while hospitals have postponed non-emergency operations. Meanwhile, Downing Street has rejected the movement, saying that it will “achieve nothing.”
