The United Kingdom announced Wednesday that it plans to end the sale of new diesel and gas run cars by 2040, making a pledge similar to the one previously made by France, India, and Norway. The plan, which promotes the use of electric cars over cars running internal combustion engines, is the latest step in Europe's battle to combat climate change. The British government also announced that it will make 255 million pounds ($332 million) available to help local governments take short-term action, like retrofitting buses, to reduce air pollution.
