Britain’s New Prince Finally Has a Name: Louis

Louis Arthur Charles, aka His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.

Prince William and Kate Middleton must really like the name Louis. They have given their new baby boy the name, the palace confirmed Friday, and Louis is also one of Prince George’s middle names. Bookmakers reported a flood of money for the name Wednesday, which resulted in the odds taking a dramatic dive from 33/1 to 3/1 during the course of the day. The name is widely perceived as a tribute to Prince Philip’s uncle Louis Mountbatten, who was murdered by the Irish Republican Army in 1979, but there was also a nod to William’s father, Charles, in the new baby’s full name. In the official announcement, Kensington Palace said: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles. The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.”
