Is this the perfect gallery show for the recession? SUGAR in Brooklyn’s Bushwick section has put together 60 photographs for an installation called A Sense of Humor, in hopes of getting their visitors laughing. The photographs were chosen by gallery owner Gwendolyn Skaggs and range from Diane Arbus to Elliott Erwitt. Skaggs explains that the collection is designed to put guests at ease and get them talking about the art. “There is a lot of juxtaposition in the installation” she says. “The way I grouped them is not obviously humorous; some are sad, others pathetic. I don’t like spoonfeeding. I want some images to be absorbed quickly because they’re funny, but others take time.”
