Brown University is sanctioning its chapters of the Phi Kappa Psi and Sigma Chi fraternities for hosting unregistered parties last fall that created environments that “facilitated” sexual misconduct, officials said in a statement Monday. Phi Kappa Psi will lose school recognition for four years as well its house on campus, effective immediately. Sigma Chi was put on probation and its university privileges were revoked until fall 2016. Two students reported drinking punch laced with a date-rape drug at an unregistered Phi Kappa Psi party in October, leading to one of the two students being sexually assaulted. Sigma Chi reportedly hosted an unregistered party in October, at which a student reported an incident of non-consensual sexual contact. No fraternity members were accused of sexual misconduct by the school and none of them face criminal charges.
