Leave it to Congress to put this off until the last minute. Capitol Hill sources say Democrats and Republicans are closing in on a deal that would avoid a government shutdown for at least a few days while the details of a full compromise are being worked out. Reports from both parties indicated that a tentative deal had been reached and that both Democrats and Republicans would be reviewing its provisions with their caucus. "We know the whole world is watching us today," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said during the tense negotiations.
