Director Joss Whedon is bringing back a new generation of vampire slayers with an upcoming reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer—and this time the series will reportedly see a black actress take on the lead role. Working with Fox 21 TV Studios, Whedon will serve as an executive producer of the project, while Monica Owusu-Breen will be showrunner and head writer, according to Deadline. The script has yet to be written, but Fox reportedly plans to pitch the reboot to cable and streaming networks this summer. “Like our world, it [the new series] will be richly diverse, and like the original, some aspects of the series could be seen as metaphors for issues facing us all today,” the producers said in a statement.
