Oh, the old Irish defense. On the trail's kickoff Wednesday, notorious Boston mobster James "Whitey" Bulger's defense attorney argued that his client never worked as an FBI informant against rivals because he is Irish. "Number one, James Bulger is of Irish descent," J.W. Carney said. "And the worst thing an Irish person could consider doing is becoming an informant." He claimed Bulger, who spent 16 years on the lam before his arrest two years ago, was paying corrupt FBI agent John Connolly for information, and his informant file was fabricated as a cover-up. Bulger faces 19 murder charges and 13 other counts, which he's already pled not guilty to.
