Burt Shavitz, the co-founder and the face of the body products brand Burt’s Bees, has died, the company said Sunday. He was 80. The company did not say how Shavitz died. The Maine native co-founded the company with artist Roxanne Quimby in 1984.“We remember him as a bearded, free-spirited Maine man, a beekeeper, a wisecracker, a lover of golden retrievers and his land,” the company wrote in a post on its website. Quimby met Shavitz while hitchhiking and used his beeswax to make candles she sold at craft fairs. The company grew into a world-renowned body-product line, best known for its lip balm.
