A transgender inmate in a California prison seeking sex reassignment surgery will be paroled. Michelle Norsworthy, 51, will be paroled without action by Gov. Jerry Brown, rendering moot an earlier order requiring the state to pay for her sex-reassignment surgery. In a separate case on Friday, the state also reached a settlement with another transgender inmate, agreeing to provide surgery for her and transfer her to a women’s prison. In that case, the state agreed to allow transgender inmates and inmates who suffer from gender dysphoria access to clothing, toiletries and other items appropriate for the gender they identify with.
