Shark attacks along California’s shores are 90 percent less likely than in the mid-1950s, despite an increased number of swimmers. A new study says that far fewer people than expected are getting bitten, and the report comes after eight people were attacked by sharks in North Carolina in recent weeks. Researchers say this might be the result of fewer sharks in the water, but is definitely due in part to them seeking out more of their natural prey: large sea-dwelling mammals.
