‘Call of Duty’ Sells 6.5 Million Copies

The game sold a record-breaking 6.5 million copies—more than $400 million—in the U.S. and Britain alone. “We believe the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the biggest entertainment launch of all time in any medium,” said Bobby Kotick, the chief executive of Activision Blizzard, adding that total sales exceeded the box-office takes of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. More than 13,000 stores around the world opened at midnight to sell the game, which lets players fight a Russian terrorist in London, New York, and elsewhere.
