Tory leader David Cameron pronounced it “decision time” for Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg, who is debating whether to throw his party’s weight—and control of government—behind the Conservatives or Labour. Signs were pointing toward a Conservative-Lib Dem alliance until Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced he would step down as prime minister if the Liberal Democrats join Labour. Both Labour and the Conservatives have offered the Liberal Democrats their main priority of holding a referendum on changing electoral rules to the Alternative Vote system.
