Ontario's Liberal Party elected Kathleen Wynne as party leader, making her the first openly gay premier of a Canadian province. Wynne will succeed Dalton McGuinty as premier of Canada's most populous province. Three other women already govern the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, and Quebec. Wynne won 57 percent of the 2,016 valid votes cast by the party's delegates on Saturday, beating out rival Sandra Pupatello. In a speech on Saturday, Wynne promised to maintain a "steely" fiscal resolve.
