The giant cloud of smoke caused by the wildfire in Canada’s Fort McMurray will likely reach as far south as Northern California by Tuesday, officials said Monday. Light recent rain and a temperature shift have given authorities in Alberta province hope that they may soon get control of the blaze. Nearly 90,000 people had left the town after the fire approached the area, eventually burning as many as 1,600 houses and buildings. Residents have not yet been given a timeline for when they might be able to return to the city.
