Cantaloupe Outbreak to Continue

The outbreak of listeria traced to Colorado cantaloupes is the deadliest U.S. food outbreak in more than a decade—and it is expected to continue. "We will see more cases likely through October,” FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg said Wednesday. The last contaminated cantaloupes, which shipped from Jensen Farms in Colorado, went out Sept. 10 and have a shelf life of two weeks. Cantaloupes that came from other farms are safe to eat, but it’s sometimes difficult to tell a cantaloupe’s source: recalled cantaloupes could be labeled “Colorado Grown,” “Distributed by Frontera Produce,” “Jensenfarms.com,” or “Sweet Rocky Fords,” but they may also not be labeled at all.
