Murder charges against the captain and three crew members of a ferry that capsized in South Korea last month were charged with murder on Thursday. The captain, Lee Jun-seok, was one of the 15 crew members who have been indicted on various criminal charges after being accused of fleeing the ship instead of working to save hundreds of passengers who died after being told to stay inside the vessel. The other three charged with murder include the two ship’s mates and the ferry’s chief engineer. The sinking of the ferry on April 16 left 284 dead and 20 missing. If convicted, the four could face the death penalty.
