Disney’s Captain Marvel has sold more than $1 billion in tickets, Variety reports Wednesday. It’s the first female-led superhero film to hit that mark; D.C.’s Wonder Woman grossed $841 million in 2017. It’s also the seventh film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to do so, joining the ranks of films like Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War. The film’s success comes after an outpouring of sexism directed at the lead, Brie Larson, from disgruntled internet trolls and men’s rights activists upset over Marvel’s first major foray into female-led movies.
