Catholic Church Removes Ex-Archbishop Over ‘Credible’ Sexual-Abuse Allegations

Pope Francis ordered the removal of Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, 87, from the public ministry after the Vatican found allegations that he sexually abused a teenager more than 40 years ago to be “credible.” McCarrick maintained his innocence, but accepted his removal in a statement issued by the church. McCarrick served as archbishop of Washington, D.C. between 2000 and 2006.
