Kim and Kanye had a scream at Six Flags Magic Mountain this week. See other shrieks and giggles from Sofia Vergara, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry—and Jimmy Breslin.

Is this a sign of a roller-coaster relationship to come? This week, Kim Kardashian tweeted a photo of herself with Kanye West (and sister Kendall Jenner) on a ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Santa Clarita, Calif. “Magic Mountain fun today!!! Kendall screaming, Kanye laughing & me crying!" But Kardashian seemed to have a sense of humor about the less-than-flattering photo later. As she tweeted, "Mannnn my crying face! LOL."

Was it just good acting or genuine terror when Sofia Vergara took the plunge at Disneyland’s Splash Mountain last March for an episode of Modern Family? The Emmy-nominated star was holding on to her heels for dear life, while her TV son (Rico Rodriguez) had other things on his mind as he chatted away on his cellphone.

During a 2011 episode of Jersey Shore, Snooki took a break from working at the Shore Store to ride a coaster in Seaside Heights, N.J., with Jionni Lavalle. A few months after filming, the couple agreed to take an even bigger plunge when Snooki accepted Lavalle’s proposal.

As if her music videos weren’t evidence enough, last summer Katy Perry showed she really likes to let her colorful hair down when she rode three roller coasters at Six Flags Great America, Chicago. Perry loved the thrills on Raging Bull, Superman: Ultimate Flight, and Batman the Ride so much that she went on each ride twice.

Showing that she’s a true rock-and-roller-coaster girl, Rihanna flashed the devil’s horns before going for a spin on Tatsu at Six Flags Magic Mountain in September 2009. At the same time Rihanna was letting off steam, her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown was watching his popularity plummet after assaulting the singer and doing a controversial interview with Larry King to explain his actions.

Not all celebrities who ride roller coasters are trying to recapture their youth. Some are right in the middle of it. Last year, Oscar-nominated actress Hailee Steinfeld and fashion blogger Tavi Gevinson, both 14, hit the rides at Disneyland, including Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. And the two were all smiles afterward as well. As Steinfeld told Fashionista, “I love Tavi. What I love about her so much is she’s such a cool girl. We’re the same age and the fact that she has something that she’s so into–and it’s fashion … and her blog is the coolest thing in the world. We have so much in common. I really enjoyed hanging out with her.”

Oh, no, not in the face! In 1999, during the maiden voyage of the Apollo’s Chariot coaster at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Va., Fabio was riding in the first car when a goose flew into his famous nose during the ride. The romance-novel cover model, surrounded by beautiful women in tunics, stepped off the attraction with a bloody face and was treated at a local hospital for cuts and bruises. The goose was not as fortunate—it was later found under the ride with a broken neck. "This is a testament of the man's strength,” Fabio’s publicist said after the aerial assault. “Only a strong man could have survived an onslaught like this."

Norman Mailer took a break from campaigning for New York City mayor in June 1969 by going for a ride on Coney Island’s legendary Cyclone with his running mate Jimmy Breslin. The two literary lions—who ran on the platform that New York City should be the 51st state—showed no fear as they sat in the front car, but voters were not impressed: Mailer finished fourth out of five in the city’s 1969 Democratic primary.

Boy, did Justin Bieber look baby, baby, baby-faced when he rode the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Walt Disney World with two fans who won a radio contest to attend his concert. Three years later, Bieber clearly wants to put those childish things behind him. “I feel like I carry myself in a more manly way,” he told Rolling Stone this month. “I don’t carry myself as a boy.”

It had all the makings of an awkward double date, and yet Bruce Willis and his future wife, Emma Heming, sure seem like they were having a blast with his ex-wife Demi Moore and her then-husband Ashton Kutcher on a 2008 roller-coaster ride. Then again, the grown-ups (left) don’t seem to be having as much fun as the kids.
