Dozens of Hollywood celebrities have joined Washington in paying tribute to political icon John McCain after the senator’s death on Saturday. Whoopi Goldberg, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jimmy Kimmel, Ashton Kutcher, Tom Arnold, Damian Lewis, and Olivia Wilde were among the big names to honor McCain on Twitter, with some of them sharing clips of his most memorable political moments. “RIP John McCain. Imperfect politician, war hero (yes Trump, war hero) and man of great conviction. MAN OF GREAT CONVICTION,” Lewis wrote. Many took the opportunity to criticize President Trump’s treatment of the “maverick” senator in his final months. “Couldn’t disagree more with Senator McCain on policy but there’s no denying he was a hero who served our country admirably. He deserved so much better in his final years...the bullying by Trump and his supporters was awful,” comedian Kathy Griffin wrote on Twitter. Actress and writer Amber Tamblynn called on Trump to “muster some amount of decency and respect to say something kind about a man who was very important to this country, all political differences aside.”
