
Lady Gaga, who received the CFDA’s Fashion Icon Award, arrived on the red carpet in a blue wig and 24-inch Noritaka Tatehana platform heels. She flashed her signature “monster claw” for the cameras. But when she accepted her award, Gaga was quick to turn the attention on people in the fashion industry who actually make the clothes.

Anderson Cooper took a break from the news to emcee the evening’s events on Monday night. He was a good sport, too, showing pictures of himself modeling as a child on a large screen, which was met with laughs and applause. And though Cooper was a hit, he couldn’t stay for until the end of the show. To close the evening, Diane Von Furstenberg appeared on stage, explaining that Cooper had to depart to cover the Anthony Weiner story.

A very pregnant Jessica Alba was all aglow in a custom Diane Von Furstenberg two-toned gown and Fallon jewelry.

The rapper, who arrived in ripped denim jeans and a white tuxedo jacket, presented Celine designer Phoebe Philo with the CFDA’s International Award. West is himself a fan of Philo’s womenswear collection—famously wearing a blouse from her Spring 2011 collection during a performance at the Coachella Music Festival in April.

Kerry Washington brightened up the purple carpet in an ivory alpaca shift dress by Calvin Klein, and walked down the red carpet with Calvin Klein designer Francisco Costa.

Liv Tyler, in a multi-colored look from Proenza Schouler’s Fall 2011 collection, arrived with designers Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez.
