Charges were dropped Thursday against 20-year-old University of Virginia student Martese Johnson, who was involved in a highly publicized bloody police arrest earlier this year. Charlottesville Commonwealth’s Attorney David Chapman came to the decision after reviewing the case this week, but also concluded that the findings of his investigation do not warrant charges against the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control officers who arrested Johnson on March 18. Johnson’s lawyer said his client, who was initially charged with public intoxication or swearing, and obstruction of justice with force, was “overjoyed” to hear the news.
