Continental Caused Deadly Concorde Crash

Guilty

French court rules on 2000 disaster.

A French court found Continental Airlines Inc. and one of its mechanics guilty of manslaughter for the Air France Concorde crash that killed 113 people a decade ago. The judge found that debris dropped on the runway from a Continental plane gashed the Concorde's tire, sending it into a nearby hotel. But Continental's defense lawyer said they would appeal the decision and condemned it for being primarily patriotic. A lawyer for the family of Concorde pilot Christian Marty and a pilots union also criticized the decision, calling it "incomprehensible" and asked why Continental mechanics were blamed when French officials had known for decades that the Concorde had problems.
