Chicago city and health officials reported Friday that 74 people have overdosed from a lethal mixture of heroin and a painkiller, possibly fentanyl, over the course of 72 hours. The overdoses all occurred on the city’s West Side, where authorities say the drugs were purchased. Police recovered a sample of heroin that may have contained fentanyl from one of two locations being investigated. Paramedics and fire department personnel have equipped themselves with extra Narcan, a drug used to reverse heroin overdoses.
