Chicago now has a $5.5 million reparations fund for victims of notorious bad cop Jon Burge, thanks to a unanimous city council vote Wednesday. “This is another step, but an essential step, in righting a wrong— removing a stain,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel. “Chicago has finally confronted its past and come to terms with it and recognizing something wrong was done.” Burge and his underlings are believed to have tortured more than 200 suspects over 20 years. He served a short sentence for perjury and obstruction of justice, and was released in 2014.
