The Chicago Police Department says it never recommended that Donald Trump cancel his rally in the city, despite the Republican candidate’s claims that he was advised on safety threats by the agency prior to the event. CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told the Associated Press on Friday night that the department did not warn the Trump camp of any security threats at the venue, and that the agency had sufficient manpower to handle possible threats. The candidate’s decision was made “independently,” the police asserted.
