Chicago Police Chief Garry McCarthy Fired

Chicago Police superintendent Garry McCarthy has been fired by mayor Rahm Emanuel, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The paper says a "shell-shocked" McCarthy was informed of the decision overnight. According to the report, the police leader's handling of controversies surrounding the police killing of Laquan McDonald and the gang execution of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee had become too much of a liability for the city.
