In a brief weekend scare, an Illinois state representative was threatened with a gun while walking through his district, Chicago’s Lower West Side. Late Friday night, an individual inside a van aimed a pistol at Edward Acevedo, the Illinois House’s assistant majority leader and a Democrat. Once Acevedo announced his office—it’s unclear whether he identified himself as a politician or a police officer—the van sped away without incident. No arrests have been made, and no motive has yet emerged.
