A former superintendent in Chicago’s water department used his city email to send racist messages making light of the city’s gun violence, the Chicago Tribune reported Monday. Paul Hansen, a white superintendent with the department, boasted of giving “Chicago Safari” tours. “We guarantee that you will see at least one kill and five crime scenes per three day tour,” his email read. “You’ll also see lots and lots of animals in their natural habitat. Call and book your Chicago Safari today.” Hansen and water department officials also sent other racist, homophobic, and anti-Muslim emails, including one with a picture of Ku Klux Klan members captioned “Watermelon Protection,” the Tribune previously reported. Hansen and other officials are also under investigation for accessing sexually explicit videos on their government accounts.
