A man has been charged with attempted homicide after a 5-year-old child fell from the third-floor balcony at the Mall of America in Minnesota on Friday. Witnesses told police that the child might have been pushed or thrown, and that they saw 24-year-old Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda running from the scene. Aranda was later located and arrested elsewhere in the mall. Police don’t have an idea about possible motive, but believe it to be an isolated incident, according to Police Chief Jeff Potts. “At this time, we do not believe that there is a relationship between the suspect and the child or the family of the child,” Potts said. A witness said a woman screamed that her child was thrown from the balcony. Mall-goers and emergency responders administered first aid to the child, who was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. No details were immediately available about the child’s condition.
