China Bans Online Impersonation

Beginning March 1, China will ban all Internet accounts that impersonate people or organizations and will begin enforcing a requirement that people use real names when registering accounts online. This ban affects users on social media that create parody accounts of prominent figures and organizations. Chinese attempts to control the Internet have increased since President Xi Jinping took power in 2013. Internet companies will be responsible for enforcing the rules.
