The devastating 7.1 magnitude earthquake that rocked Jiegu, China has now claimed at least 1,144 lives. The official toll is expected to rise even further. The official Xinhua News Agency reported 11,477 people injured, and of those 1,174 were injured severely. Tibetan monks have gathered to pray over bodies in makeshift morgues. It is estimated that the earthquake caused the collapse of 70 percent to 90 percent of the town's wood-and-mud houses.
