China's State Broadcaster Launches Global Network

China’s state-run television network has announced the launch of a new global network in an ambitious international push. Starting on New Year's Day, the China Central Television Network will be replaced by the China Global Television Network, offering six channels and a new digital media agency. Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged the nation’s new soft power initiative to “tell China stories well,” the official Xinhua news agency reported Saturday. The network has already been compared to Russia’s RT, a global multilingual network widely considered to be the Kremlin’s propaganda arm.
