A Chinese firm scooped up AMC Entertainment’s 346 cinemas in a multibillion-dollar deal that the company says gives it the largest chain of movie houses in the world. Wang Jianlin, president of the Dalian Wanda Group, said that the buy “will help make Wanda a truly global cinema owner, with theaters and technology that enhance the movie-going experience for audiences in the world’s two largest movie markets.” The China-based company owns 86 theaters in the Asian country. AMC, with its more than 5,000 American screens, will remain based in Kansas City, Mo. The relationship between Chinese and American filmmakers has been growing, with studios including Disney and Marvel striking a deal last year to produce Iron Man 3 partly in China.
