The owner of a Chinese gypsum mine allegedly committed suicide Sunday as rescuers struggle to free 17 workers trapped two days after the mine collapsed, killing one person. 11 people have already been rescued, but Yurong Commerce and Trade Ltd. Co. president Ma Congbo reportedly jumped into a well during the recovery efforts, drowning himself. Chinese authorities typically deal out harsh punishments to management and local safety officials after such disasters.
