Chinese Woman Jailed for Tweeting

Sentenced to year of hard labor.

China has sentenced a woman to a year in a labor camp for posting a message to Twitter. The woman, human-rights activist Cheng Jianping, was arrested for retweeting a message urging Chinese demonstrators to attack the Japanese pavilion at the Shanghai Expo—an action she intended as a joke. Still, she was arrested for disrupting social order. Twitter is banned in China.
