MSNBC host Chris Matthews has apologized for a video that emerged on Friday in which he made an ugly joke about Hillary Clinton just before an interview with her in Iowa during the 2016 Democratic primary. “Can I have some of the queen’s waters? Precious waters?” Matthews asks in the footage, released by New York Magazine’s The Cut. He then adds, “Where’s that Bill Cosby pill I brought with me?” before laughing at his own joke for several seconds. “This was a terrible comment I made in poor taste during the height of the Bill Cosby headlines,” Matthews told the website, which also catalogued previous sexist remarks he has made on-air about Clinton. “I realize that’s no excuse. I deeply regret it and I’m sorry.”
